About the Trip
Welcome to SAMi’s Jewish Heritage Trip to Georgia! 🇬🇪
Join an unforgettable journey through the breathtaking landscapes and ancient cities of the country of Georgia, where Jewish life has flourished for more than 2,600 years. This international experience brings together Young Jewish Professionals (ages 23–47) from around the world to explore one of the oldest and most unique Jewish communities in the diaspora.
From the charming streets of Tbilisi and the historic synagogues of Kutaisi to the legendary Jewish quarter of Oni, participants will discover a story of resilience, coexistence, and cultural richness. Georgian Jews preserved their traditions for centuries while living peacefully alongside their neighbors, creating a vibrant heritage that continues today.
Since 2013, SAMi has been curating transformative heritage journeys that connect participants to Jewish history, identity, and community. These trips are designed not just as travel experiences, but as opportunities to build lasting friendships and deepen one’s connection to the global Jewish story.
Get ready to walk through ancient synagogues, taste authentic Georgian cuisine, and encounter a remarkable Jewish legacy that has endured for millennia.
History, culture, and discovery await in Georgia.
Shaped by centuries of foreign influences—Russian, Turkish, and Persian neighbors all left their marks—the Republic of Georgia feels untouched by time. Rolling green hills dotted with centuries-old churches and watchtowers stretch toward towering mountains, welcoming hikers, explorers, and travelers from around the world. As one of the world’s oldest wine-producing regions, Georgia offers a warm culture where hospitality and celebration are part of everyday life.
Once a hidden gem, now a popular tourist destination, the Republic of Georgia in the Caucasus Mountains is frequently featured in travel blogs—and for good reason. For such a small country, Georgia offers an incredible mix of breathtaking landscapes, rich traditions, historic cities, and unforgettable cuisine.
Georgia is also home to one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world, with a history of more than 2,600 years. Jewish families lived here for generations, preserving their traditions while living peacefully alongside their neighbors. Cities like Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Oni still hold traces of this remarkable Jewish heritage.
While many travelers come to Georgia for its landscapes and cuisine, few tours explore this important Jewish story. Through this experience, participants will discover historic synagogues, learn about the Georgian Jewish community, and connect with a unique chapter of Jewish history.
More than a trip, it is a journey into a living story of culture, tradition, and community.

Generally, there are no strict limitations on clothing, especially in Tashkent and other major cities, where particularly young people enjoy full liberty with clothing. You can frequently encounter young ladies wearing traditional Islamic covers, but this is a personal preference rather than a must. In some provinces, however, it would be better to avoid wearing shorts. Same rule is applied when visiting religious places, mosques, mausoleums, etc. Also, ladies should cover their shoulders and chest and preferably wear a hat or a headscarf. In summer time it would be advisable to follow the above recommendation to protect yourself from the sun. Also, sun protection lotions can be used.
